2014 Downtown Block Party Series to End on a Jazzy Note

This year’s Downtown Gloucester Block Party Series finishes with a flurry of jazz masters on five outdoor stages on Saturday, September 20th. The festivities will, of course, feature a slew of dining options and activities for the whole family.

Jazz aficionados and novices alike will dig the cool sounds of Gloucester’s Docksiders Big Band plus an ensemble of accomplished musicians, including jazz pianist Bert Seager, bassist John Lockwood, Joe Hunt on drums and tenor sax players Brian Levy and Henry Paz. Other performances to look forward to are Will Loco and the Raztones along with the Downhome Swing Band and Dr. Bones’ Circus of Marvels.

As always, the Block Party boasts activities for attendees of all ages. Seniors are invited to Cape Ann Cinema at 7 p.m. for free movies and snacks courtesy of local businesses Sparx3 and Cape Ann Communications. For a lift to and from the fun, Beauport Transportation Services donated a free shuttle service for seniors. Gloucester’s littlest ones can enjoy, “Kids’ Town” featuring face painting, games, chalk drawing and a giant chess board.

To re-fuel from all the fun, Block Party guests can take advantage of Main Street restaurants open late or a portable treat from one of the many vendors. For a taste of some delicious late-summer BBQ, Smokin’ Jim’s will serve food in the back garden.
